I finally got round to trying this out.
I compiled the kernel sources in linux-source-3.13 (version 3.13.10-1) 
package with your patch using make-kpkg (I’d forgotten how long this can 
be on slow computers like this).

Using this kernel with parameters « radeon.modeset=1 video=radeonfb:off 
», I ended with a black screen when X started up. But there was nothing 
noticeable in my Xorg.log.
Do you more info, or should I try running it with other options?
