DRI1 for xserver-xorg-video-savage / libmesa

Dear X list,

T23 1] is my laptop, SuperSavage my VGA card for which is not DRI2
capable and DRI1 support has been dropped in libgl1-mesa-dri in 0.8.0.1
[2] as beeing deprecated upstream [3] (e4344161bd) in Aug 2011.[4].

mesa (8.0-1) experimental; urgency=low [ Cyril Brulebois ]
  * New upstream release.
  * Update rules file to strop building DRI1 drivers, they went away
    with the following upstream commit:
    - dri: Remove all DRI1 drivers (e4344161bd).

${ORIGIN}/dri/savage_dri.so failed (${ORIGIN}/dri/savage_dri.so: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory) libGL: OpenDriver:
warning: couldn't open libtxc_dxtn.so, software DXTn
compression/decompression unavailable
(full glxinfo output is attached)

That makes a perfomance of ~9 FPS. I hope this machine can do more.

I am not afraid to compile it myself, but maybe one of you likes the
idea to have a DRI1 package with savage_dri.so and drivers for all the
other dropped cards. [5]
Via popcon it is not possible to see, which cards people use, isnt it?
I just looked at up xserver-xorg-video-savage which is a dependency of
~-all so 80.000 (50%) people installed it, which says quite nothing.

On the gentoo forum [6] was a hint to just install DRI from mesa 7.11
[7]. Unfortunately ftp.freedestop.org [8] is (currently?) not online.
At the moment I am checking out the mesa repository [9].

I think it's time for a coffee now. Hope to read You.
