Booting with nouveau.modeset=0 disables the driver, probably not what
you want unless you intend to switch to the Nvidia blob.

This seems to have been reported upstream recently, see
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61287.
Have you tried booting with nouveau.noaccel=1 yet? That seems to be the
only way to obtain stability on N4VE.
