I guess you're in the case where r600g (gallium) works OK, while r600c (classic) doesn't. It would be nice to figure out whether mesa master is showing the same bugs. You could try the following instructions to test that: http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/build-mesa.html But beware: those haven't been updated yet to the new options/flags for radon hardware, so you'll probably have to specify some other radeon or r* options/flags.
