The nouveau DRI driver does indeed support that, but is itself
unsupported and not installed by default, so things will not work out of
the box for NVidia users. And realistically, we can neither fix bugs in
it on our own nor tell people to report them upstream, because any
released Mesa version is "from the stone age" from the Nouveau
developers' POV.
