Package: xbase-clients
Version: 4.2.0-0pre1v3
Severity: normal

When those files get left behind after a transient problem then the following
error message will be displayed whenever xauth it run:
xauth: error in locking authority file /home/rjc/.Xauthority

It does not clarify the problem, or provide any method of solution (something
that works the way /var/run/*.pid files work would be good).

Even if the error message was changed to the following it would be an
improvement:
xauth: error in creating lock file for authority file /home/rjc/.Xauthority

I'm not sure how that would help. Using strace seems to be what's
needed here in both cases.

Since it's been tagged wontfix previously, I'm now closing this bug
report, no need to keep it open forever.

If you disagree, feel free to open a bug upstream (which would be the
place for such a bug anyway):
