regarding Add a comment to /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc like 'affects only xinit, ie. startx not display managers'
to be marked as done.

This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with.
If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the
Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith.

/etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc contains the command line how to
start the X server together with command line options.

/etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf contains such a command line too (in
the section 'server-Standard' at the bottom).

This is rather confusing -- gdm shoudl honor /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc

while I could understand your arguments, I beg to differ. gdm users
should read the gdm manual and use its configuration tool(s), ditto
for other *dm. People looking into /etc/X11 should be able to figure
out that /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc might be for xinit.
