If the X server crashed, getting a backtrace would be nice; as well as kernel logs. See this doc for example: http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/use-gdb.html It would be nice to tell us how it goes with an up-to-date X stack, be it in squeeze or in sid. Also, I think you want to install both firmware-linux-free and firmware-linux-nonfree. KiBi.
