I cannot find anything related to fglrx and all blacklists are Debian default,
no local changes:

michael@feivel:~$ grep radeon /etc/modprobe.d/*
/etc/modprobe.d/fbdev-blacklist.conf:blacklist radeonfb
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf:options radeon modeset=1

Sorry about that, I thought reportbug would take care of adding this kind of
information. Anyway, the script output is now in the bug report.

It seems this worked:

[ 14.605725] [drm] radeon kernel modesetting enabled.
...
[ 14.608066] [drm] radeon: Initializing kernel modesetting.
[ 14.610817] [drm] radeon: 256M of VRAM memory ready
[ 14.610819] [drm] radeon: 512M of GTT memory ready.
