Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv
Version: 1:2.1.3-1
Severity: normal

Severity is higher for me! I'm guessing that the driver is the
ultimate source of the problem; please reassign as appropriate.

X starts normally, but when I exit a session the system hangs up. I
run kdm. This behavior, or at least the frequency of the problem, is
new within the last week, I think. I track testing.

Usually I run KDE.

1. When I logoff and select shutdown the KDE session ends and the
screen stays black. The system does not shutdown, and my fans come
on. I believe this means something is using lots of CPU. The logs
show
Feb 10 02:45:39 cotton kdm: :0[10658]: Hung in XOpenDisplay(:0), aborting
Feb 10 02:45:39 cotton kdm: :0[10658]: Cannot connect to :0, giving up
Feb 10 02:45:39 cotton kdm[6051]: Display :0 cannot be opened

ctl-alt-backspace and ctl-alt-Fn do not work. ctl-alt-del seems to
get me a clean shutdown.

2. When I logoff and select "end session" (i.e., no shutdown) the
system hangs in the same way, except that I do not see the log
messages shown above.

To see if this was KDE specific, I started Xfce.
3. On exit, the screen has many color and flashing letters and
symbols. Recovery keys other than ctl-alt-del are ineffective. I
think I've seen this problem (not sure if it was Xfce only) before the
last week.

Unfortunately, the problem seems to generate very little log
information (syslog, kern.log, daemon.log, Xorg.0.log, kdm.log). I do
not have access to a second system for ssh, and when I attempt to
switch to vt2 to monitor things the problem goes away. It also looks
as if the problem may cause some of the logs to be lost.
