Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.7.7-3 Severity: important When using flash under firefox or chromium, switching it to full screen mode causes flash to segfault. I just upgraded this computer to testing, however, both the adobe flash plugin and chromium were already running the latest versions so they were not upgraded. Both were working fine before the upgrade. I found the following error in the Xorg log file: (EE) GLX error: Can not get required symbols. Searching the net I found reference to this error with a different X driver having a possible fix by setting in the monitor section: option "DPMS" "true" this had no effect. Finally in the Module section of xorg.conf I changed: Load "glx" to Disable "glx" which resolved the immediate problem, except of course that glx is still broken. As I see it, there are a few issues here which should be resolved: 1 - The cause of the "(EE) GLX error: Can not get required symbols." error needs to be fixed. 2 - X should abort when an error like this occurs rather than continuing to run with what is apparently a corrupt environment. 3 - If X is going to continue to run after an error like this, it needs to cleanly remove the offending module. This clearly did not happen, otherwise, there would be no difference between running flash with glx failing to load correctly and glx disabled. As a copy of the full log file is included below from the successful run, I am including here the diffs between the log files from successful and failed sessions: 16c16 < (==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Mon Aug 9 19:29:07 2010 --- > (==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Mon Aug 9 19:13:23 2010 57c57 < (++) using VT number 9 --- > (++) using VT number 8 62d61 < (WW) "glx" will not be loaded unless you've specified it to be loaded elsewhere. 65c64 < (II) "glx" will be loaded even though the default is to disable it. --- > (II) "glx" will be loaded. Hi, Shannon Dealy <dealy@deatech.com> (11/08/2010): > While removing the fglrx packages now allows glx to run without > crashing flash in full screen mode (thanks), great. User error rather than a bug of ours, closing then. > this still leaves the issue of why is X not aborting on what should > in my view be a fatal error at startup? What? Letting you run anything not-GLX doesn't look like something which would warrant a fatal error. KiBi.Attachment: signature.asc
