The default value was overridden in Debian from #232 to #248, which set
DEF_POINTER_MODE=pNever (and patched the manpage accordingly).  There
had been a number of bug reports of annoyed users after the cursor
hiding was introduced in #230, so at first I decided to get back to the
pre-#230 behaviour.  In #249 I reverted this to use the upstream default
again, and haven't seen anyone complaining IIRC.
