It seems it's related to the fastScroll handling.

In xterm-256 if fastScroll is set, xterm skips large chunks of outputs
like cat /usr/share/dict/words or dmesg

But in xterm-258 the screen flickers and has lots of artifacts.

Maybe in some case the screen will be totally locked? If this is not
that case then I will open a separate bug.
