That's because it's not getting ignored.  Only the inputdevice sections
with "mouse" and "kbd" drivers are ignored because we don't use those
drivers anymore (and even then not completely, we migrate the xkb config
over).

There is no "new way", and afaik the default configuration hasn't
changed in a long while (a year maybe?).

FWIW synclient allows you to list the current settings, and change them.
You don't need the SHMConfig option.
