Bug#596547: keyboard unusable

Package: xkb-data
Version: 1.8-1
Severity: important

After updating my desktop machine to squeeze my keyboard no longer works
(ok 3 keys on my keyboard among them "u" work). This happens even if I
start with an empty/no xorg.conf.

Starting X manually I noticed this on stderr:

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Error: Can't find file "en_us" for symbols include
> Exiting
> Abandoning symbols file "default"
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
(EE) Unable to open evdev device "/dev/input/event4".
(EE) PreInit returned NULL for "Microsoft Natural® Ergonomic Keyboard 4000"

So I did a strace and creating this symlink fixed it for me

# cd /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols
# ln -s us en_us

Is this a problem/misconfiguration on my side and intended or should
en_us be shipped indeed?
