Probably for the “some extension” part (not sure which).

Correct.

Please run the X bug script and attach the generated file:
  /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3> /tmp/report.txt

I guess it'd be nice to get the X log and dmesg output when the bug
happens. Depending on the outcome, it might be nice to see whether
it's stuck in some infinite loop. In which case, you could try
installing the debugging symbols for the server and for your driver,
and attach X inside gdb from another machine, so as to get a backtrace
(it might be it's so bad it freezes altogether), and if it doesn't
stop, try ^C to see where it's currently stuck.
