Bug#589452: nouveau driver doesn't work with interlaced video modes

Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Version: 1:0.0.15+git20100329+7858345-4

My CRT monitor has a fairly restrictive maximum pixel clock rate: 70 MHz.
Therefore, in order to display 1024x768 resolution with no perceptible
flicker, an interlaced video mode is required. The only non-interlaced
VESA standard video mode for 1024x768 resolution that my monitor can
display is 1024x768@60Hz, which requires a pixel clock rate of 65 MHz,
which is very near the maximum pixel clock rate for my monitor. But a
60 Hz vertical refresh rate causes noticeable flicker and eye strain.
Higher vertical refresh rates require a pixel clock rate which is too high.

The only solution is an interlaced video mode. There is a VESA standard
video mode that works well: 1024x768@87Hz interlaced, which only requires
a 44.9 MHz pixel clock rate. In addition, I developed a custom video mode
to get the most out of my monitor: 1024x768@100Hz interlaced, which drives
the monitor at its maximum vertical refresh rate of 100 Hz. This video
mode requires a 54 Mhz pixel clock rate, which is still well below 70 MHz.
Both of these modes work well with the nv driver (xserver-xorg-video-nv).
But when I try to use either of these two modes with the nouveau driver,
I get a black screen.

Here is my xorg.conf file as configured
for the VESA standard 1024x768@87Hz interlaced mode:
