Bug#581770: xserver-xorg-video-intel: No video with Intel and the ASUS P7H55-M Pro card for video

With the following config, here, no X can work :

With into /etc/default/grub :
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
# this above is default config after install

# cat /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
options i915 modeset=1
# this above is default config after install

and /etc/# cat /etc/modules
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.
# Parameters can be specified after the module name.
# this above is default config after install
loop

Hi Julien,

Thank you for your experienced replied. I wished I shouldnt mess with grub, ... I really do so.

I tried to keep grub as quiet only, and added :

# cat /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
options i915 modeset=1

and /etc/# cat /etc/modules
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.
# Parameters can be specified after the module name.

loop
i915
drm_kms_helper
drm

but this does not work to let video work.
There is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf

By default, at fresh install, no X is working, so why it is a misconfiguration? I do not understand.
I wished it worked...

Best regards
Y.

your chip (clarkdale) is not supported without i915.modeset, and
i915.modeset=1 is the default.  So you shouldn't need to mess with the
grub config.
Sounds to me like this bug should be closed as user error or
misconfiguration.

Cheers,
