Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.4.1~git20080131-4
Severity: important

Upgrading to the recent 7.3 release (which entered testing recently) broke
xkbset. To wit:

~$ xkbset q
XKB not supported for display :0.0
~$ xkbset exp =m
XKB not supported for display :0.0
~$

This significantly hinders usability for e.g. users of laptops where the
hardware does not provide second and/or third mouse buttons, which is
essentially all of them. (And Emulate3Buttons is of course not much of an aid
for e.g. Apple laptop users who only have _1_ button altogether.)

The problem does not disappear with downgrading to xkb-data-legacy. Neither
does using a fresh configuration file from dpkg-reconfigure help.

gdm's log contains many warnings and errors from xkbcomp, therefore I attached
said log below.

It's as though someone forgot to switch XKB on for the release. (why would
anyone do this? it's not as though XKB is deprecated, is it? or is there a new
preferred way to switch mousekeys on?) A quick googling for the error message
suggests that this issue is known to Ubuntu users too.
