most likely either the X server upgrade or the -intel upgrade; many
users reported such issues.

I think the way forward is finding what happens with recent kernels
(and recent X components), so that they can be fixed if needed.

As for former packages, it's a bit of a moving target (the service is
not official yet and work in progress), but you might have some luck
trying:
