*facepalm* stupid me. I even looked after it but was too dumb to read the 
version numbers correctly.

Now everything works fine, only glxgears performance went down from around 
1800 fps to around 1200 fps but that does not matter much for me atm.

Ah, btw, it's a mobile X1400 adapter in a Lenovo Z61m.
