Bug#551387: X locks but able to move the mouse cursor

I see the very same issue on a

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Fujitsu Technology Solutions D1521 Mainboard (Fujitsu-Siemens)
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
	Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
	Latency: 0
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16
	Region 0: Memory at d8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
	Region 1: Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
	Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1
		Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-)
		Status: D0 NoSoftRst- PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME-

The GPU basically crashes and the kern log shows this:

Jan 28 13:54:18 touch kernel: [10278.915552] [drm:i915_gem_execbuffer] *ERROR* Execbuf while wedged
Jan 28 13:54:19 touch kernel: [10279.711167] [drm:i915_gem_execbuffer] *ERROR* Execbuf while wedged
Jan 28 13:54:19 touch kernel: [10279.711231] [drm:i915_gem_execbuffer] *ERROR* Execbuf while wedged

But still i am able to move the mouse cursor. Currently the X on that specific
machine crashes 8-10 times a day which makes the Box unusable. Sometimes i need
to reboot 3-4 times before i get to the X sessions because it regularly crashes
before the panel comes up, right after login.

I tried these kernels:

ii linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 2.6.26-13 Linux 2.6.26 image on PPro/Celeron/PII/PIII/P4
ii linux-image-2.6.30-2-686 2.6.30-8 Linux 2.6.30 image on PPro/Celeron/PII/PIII/P4
ii linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-686 2.6.32-5 Linux 2.6.32 for modern PCs
