Thanks for these instructions. Indeed gnome-power-manager grabs that
keycode:

KeyPress event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x1200001,
    root 0x92, subw 0x0, time 4636839, (43,69), root:(77,69),
    state 0x0, keycode 150 (keysym 0x1008ff2f, XF86Sleep), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 bytes: 
    XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: 
    XFilterEvent returns: False

but does not react on it. I just had my laptop running for two hours in
my bag back because it didn’t suspend on Fn-F4 as usual...

This might be bug #519856.
