package: konqueror
version: 3.5.9
severity: critical

I have been running Konqueror on fvwm-crystal on Debian Lenny. A
number of times while using Konqueror, the entire X server crashed,
restarted, and showed the login screen. The problem usually occurred
after I had been using Konqueror with multiple tabs over a long period
of time.

I am not completely sure Konqueror is the problem. However, I believe
it is the most likely explanation, especially since I have often seen
kcrashes while running OpenBSD.

On OpenBSD, whenever Konqueror crashes, only Konqueror crashes, not
the entire X server. On OpenBSD, I also run fvwm, but with a different
configuration.

I suspect that perhaps this problem does not occur on OpenBSD because
of OpenBSD's propolice security feature, in which case perhaps this
bug should be re-assigned to gcc. However, I am not certain.

The Debian website says that the "serious" severity level should be
used for bugs which "makes unrelated software on the system (or the
whole system) break, or causes serious data loss, or introduces a
security hole on systems where you install the package." Since this
causes unrelated software on the system (the X server and all
applications running on it) to break, and results in the loss of any
unsaved data in those other applications, I am marking this as
serious.
