Bug#549335: xorg: DRI/DRM hangs machine for ati/r128 driver (squeeze;powerpc)

Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.4+4
Severity: important

Created a new xorg.conf via Xorg -configure which does not start up at that point.
When attempting to start from "invoke-rc.d xdm start" the display locks up, e.g
black screen with non-functioning keyboard and mouse. The Xorg.0.log basically stops at:

 ...
(II) R128(0): Acceleration enabled
(==) R128(0): Backing store disabled
(==) R128(0): Silken mouse enabled
(II) R128(0): Using hardware cursor (scanline 7212)
(II) R128(0): Largest offscreen area available: 800 x 651
(II) R128(0): DPMS enabled
(II) R128(0): [DRI] installation complete

xorg will start "okay" if the option:

        Option     "NoAccel"            	"True"

is added to the r128 device settings in xorg.conf. However the resolution is
quite poor at that point. (I'm assuming it can't be improved. True??)

The r128 package is installed though not listed below, e.g.:
Package: xserver-xorg-video-r128
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: x11
Installed-Size: 328
Maintainer: Debian X Strike Force <debian-x@lists.debian.org>
Architecture: powerpc
Version: 6.8.1-1

This report was generated from a chroot environment. The 2.6.30 kernel
is installed and the machine does boot from that kernel. Installation of squeeze
was via debootstrap.
