Bug#540521: xserver-xorg-core: Virtual screen size being ignored since upgrade

Since upgrading a bunch of X stuff I now get,
~$ xrandr --output VGA --left-of LVDS
xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 2048x2048 (desired size 2880x900)
~$
where it used to dual-head just fine, despite that I still set a larger
virtual screen in xorg.conf.
Actually, I don't know why it's saying "desired size 2880x900" - I want
1680x1050 on VGA next to 1440x900 on LVDS - what I had before the upgrade.
That'd be 3120x1050, I guess, I don't know why it doesn't want to let me have
that any more.
(Also, xrandr runs way faster than it used to.)
For what it's worth, libxrandr2 is version 2:1.3.0-2,
x11-xserver-utils is version 7.4+2.
