While the screen is black, are screenshots you take black as well?

As discussed on IRC, that commit doesn't cause the problem. The depth 32
visual traditionally always had the caveat until recent xserver, and
this bug was apparently just masked while that was missing.

Please provide the full output of glxinfo when the problem happens.
