I see. I guess I should work out why; there have obviously been some developments that I have not been following carefully enough. (This machine has been in "not broken don't fix it" mode for a long time, and now whenever I do need to change something small it seems to ripple out, breaking other stuff like this.)
We should add a Breaks: xprint to the libxfont1 package, as it doesn't look like xprint will be coming back.
Right. For the recond, "apt-get install libXfont1/stable" seems to have cured the problem without any immediately-obvious side effects.
