Bug#530297: xserver-xorg-video-trident: Completely blank screen and 99% CPU usage with trident driver on CyberBlade i1 card

I seem to have found two ways to work around the problem.

If I:
1) Compile and install a version of xserver-xorg-video-trident with the two lines in WAITFORVSYNC commented out. 2) Start the computer normally, so that gdm starts. At this point, I just get a blank screen which is seemingly unresponsive.
3) Switch to a text VT (which shows up)
4) Switch back to VT7

then I actually get a normal, functioning gdm login. Granted, it is 800x600 and not 1024x768 like it should be, but it works! From the Xorg.0.log (attached), X is actually detecting my LCD screen as 1024x768, but disposes of all of the modelines for 1024x768 for various reasons. I thought that this might have to do with the amount of RAM allocated to be video RAM, so I set the BIOS to allocate 8 MB. However, the problem remains.

In an attempt to fix the resolution, I changed my xorg.conf to have
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Configured Monitor"
        HorizSync 28-51
        VertRefresh 43-60
EndSection
and I have found that this fixes the problem completely, even with the unmodified version of xserver-xorg-video-trident in unstable, giving me the correct resolution.

I guess the bug here is that X misdetects the parameters of my LCD and this causes the trident driver to: 1) put the screen in a blank state where none of the above measures work and the only way to fix it is to reboot, and then 2) spin endlessly.

Here's everything I could think of regarding autodetection data:
