Yes, that's the next thing I'm gonna try.

xorg.conf is empty, the output of lshal is attached.

Note that when I made an xorg.conf with explicit mouse on /dev/input/event6 (see the attached xorg.conf), it started to work. I tried also /dev/input/mice, but this failed on some strange error (see the attached log).
