Bug#384105: #384105 xterm: terminal is slow

Dear Thomas,

I get confused about these different timings. Originally I reported
"real" times of up to 50 seconds; you seem to have corroborated
13 seconds of that in http://bugs.debian.org/384105#56 . I do not
understand how you now got it down to 0.5 secs.

I didn't write it down in the original report, but am guessing that I was running a larger screensize (normally I'm using 40x80). That's one part (and I made a point of noting the screensize this time). Another is that my caching changes from shortly after the original bug report reduced the X server traffic by about a third.

Those two could account for reducing things to about a third of the
original numbers.

I still think that the bug is really in the X server not in xterm,
despite the arguments in http://bugs.debian.org/384105#30 ; but I did
not and do not know how to argue that.

That's also possible - I'm looking at the report to see how I can improve
xterm, though.

(thanks for the update)
