Thanks for your report.  If this still happens with xkb-data 1.5, could
you run 'xkbcomp -xkb :0 out.xkb' and send the resulting out.xkb file to
this bug?

I have updated lenny, then manually downloaded and installed xkb-data 1.5 (the lenny version is older).

The issue remains.

I am attaching out.xkb as requested. Note that there was a warning:

~$ xkbcomp -xkb :0 out.xkb
Warning:          Could not load keyboard geometry for :0
                  BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
                  Resulting keymap file will not describe geometry
