I tried running Debian Live on a board with integrated G43 chipset with
DVI output (Asus P5QL-EM).

The VGA outout works but when I start X while the screen is connected
through the DVI port the DVI output is disabled until reboot.

The X refuses to start but when it finishes there is nothing visible
even on the console.

I am not sure 2.3.2 is supposed to work fine with such a recent chipset. Can you try upgrading to X in experimental where we have driver 2.4.2 ?
(you'll have to upgrade many X packages) Or can you try building 2.4.2
or later for lenny ?

As packaged the driver cannot be built for lenny - it depend on recent xserver-xorg-core.

The 2.4.2 driver from experimental works with the DVI output.

I can start the X server, see the root pattern without the screen complaining about refresh rates, and move the cursor. However, after quitting X the vesafb refresh rate is wrong.

With the lenny X the fbdev driver with vesafb also works.

Thanks

Michal
