Macos can drive it, but is the firmware able to drive it?  I.E., does
the screen light up before macos boots?

>From the driver's perspective, the x86 bios is more useful since we
can use the information in it.  We don't know anything about the ppc
firmware.  Your best bet is probably to dump the contents of the
display registers when the screen is working properly and compare them
to the contents of those registers when running X.
