Thanks for following this up.
These are the results of my tests:

cursor visible, resolution wrong (had to fix it by hand in the org.conf)

no cursor, resolution wrong

xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (1:0.2.902+svn579-2) (currently in lenny):
no cursor, resolution wrong
