Bug#498721: xorg-docs: documentations in non-standard location w/o hints
Package: xorg-docs
Version: 1:1.4-2
Severity: normal
Short story:
* Please place documentation in /usr/shre/doc/xorg-docs
* Otherwise, please place symlink in /usr/shre/doc/xorg-docs pointing
to /usr/share/X11/doc
* I file as normal since it does not follow de-facto standard.
Long story:
FHS saids:
4. The /usr Hierarchy
...
Specific Options
The following directories, or symbolic links to directories, must be in
/usr/share, if the corresponding subsystem is installed:
Directory Description
dict Word lists (optional)
doc Miscellaneous documentation (optional)
...
And we expect all documentation is in places like /usr/shere/doc/<packagename> .
But xorg-docs has all the files in /usr/share/X11/doc.
I know some package insalls documentation in places like
/usr/share/<packagename>/doc but they usually place symlink from
/usr/share/doc/<packagename>/ so people will not miss important
information.
I did not read all the build script but it looks like
debian/xorg-docs.install needs to be editted to do this. Also
xspecs.install and xspecs.links together with debian/rulrs may require
update.
I do not see most of postscript files in the source. If you excluded
with reason such as license, please indicate so. I am talking files in
/xorg-docs-1.4/hardcopy/
bdf.PS.gz (must be distribued without fee)
ctext.PS.gz (standard X)
I was guessing bdf.PS was non-free with pedantically Debian view but ...
it does not make sense.
