Package: x11-xserver-utils
Version: 7.3+3
Severity: important

After upgrading from 7.3+2 to 7.3+3 (i.e. from xrandr 1.2.2 to 1.2.3)
xrandr fails to activate the internal LVDS output of my IBM Thinkpad X31
with Radeon Mobility M6 (xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.8.0-1).

The following scenario worked reliably for months before the mentioned upgrade:
I boot up with lid closed and an external screen attached via VGA-0 output.
After resuming from ACPI S3 state I call 'xrand --auto' to bring up
appropriate screens, depending on whether I am still at home (on the
port replicator, with lid closed) or travelling around with lid open and no
external screen attached.

With xrandr 1.2.3 if I open the lid and detach the external screen and call
'xrand --auto' the internal screens remains off.
Reattaching the external screen showed this error message:

$ xrandr --auto
xrandr: cannot find crtc for output LVDS

This bug is extremly nasty, because it makes it impossible to send the notebook
to S3, undock and resume somewhere else to continue working because there is
no possibility to activate the internal display. Not even the console works
(iirc).

I downgraded to package version 7.3+2 (i.e. xrandr 1.2.2) and without
reboot it immediately worked again as desired. It's interesting that
after reupgrading to 7.3+3 (i.e. xrandr 1.2.3) without reboot everything
worked with the initially broken new version 1.2.3 of xrandr.
(Switching back and forth resolves the bug only until the next reboot.)

Here is xrandr --verbose output (version 1.2.3) with lid closed
and external screen on:
