Bug#486330: xserver-xorg-video-vmware: it remaps keys in the Windows VM

Then xserver-xorg-video-vmware is completely irrelevant. It is a package to
be installed in VMware guests as a video driver.

OTOH, there is a keyboard-related error in your log:

(EE) Error compiling keymap (server-0)
(EE) XKB: Couldn't compile keymap

Could you please update xkeyboard-config to the latest version and retest?

I reported the problem against xserver-xorg-vmware because the keyboard usability problem is unique to the VMware Server session, I wasn't aware that it was a video driver. Thanks. This is what happened when I tried complying with your request:

Source Package: xkeyboard-config (1.3-1)
The following binary packages are built from this source package:

In other words, I have the latest version of xkeyboard-config for lenny installed, and sid uses the same version.

I rechecked kdm.log and found:

the difference between the situation before the update and now is that kdm.log still shows the following, but the Linux host keyboard works anyway... but it doesn't work in the VMware Server VMs.

Also note that after more use, I found that the Linux keyboard still has to be restarted occassionally, but far less often than previously.
