This broke my X setup quite badly. It seems the problem is simple: I changed the IP address of this machine, but when creating a new cookie xauth doesn't change the IP address of the cookie but continues to use the entry with the old ID. However when extracting the cookie it will only look for the entry with the new IP (it does a gethostbyname() apparently). As a result I can no longer extract my cookie. On a related note: where does xauth get the full domain name for those cookies? That host is no longer in DNS with the IP listed in the cookie, but xauth still manages to fully qualify it.. This bug has been marked as "wontfix" for a while, and I don't think it is worth keeping it open. So as part of cleaning the BTS, I am just closing it. Cheers Brice
