Could you try building a more recent git snapshot of the upstream repo?

If the bug still occurs with latest upstream git, it would be great if
you could git-bisect to find which git commit introduced the problem.

If you really don't want to play with git, it would be nice to try
earlier 6.8.1~git snapshots from experimental and see where the problem
first appears. You can use snapshot.debian.net to get these older packages.
