Bug#403556: xserver-xorg-video-mga: VT switch dims 16-bit-color screen 0 when screen 1 is 24-bit

It is taking 100% of the CPU, but in kernel mode; GDB calls
ptrace(PTRACE_ATTACH, 2006, 0, 0) and then waitpid(2006, ...),
which does not return.  I suppose an infinite loop in the kernel
would explain why the shutdown hangs.

If I understand correctly, wchan = 0... well perhaps that is to
be expected, since the thread is looping rather than waiting.

At other times, the bug has happened when I've switched back to X
after using the Linux text console for several hours.  This time,
it happened unattended after I had turned the computer on and
gone to another room; presumably when X was starting up.

I don't have a kernel debugger set up, but I got this:

This is linux-image-2.6.22-1-k7 2.6.22-3, but I did compile it
locally, so the addresses may differ from yours.

This bug report has now slipped rather far from the original
title; what should be done to correct this?  Mind you, I would
still like to get two X screens with the card.  So perhaps clone
the busy loop to a new bug report and change the original to
wishlist?
