Bug#464662: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Synaptics TouchPad not detected in Xorg -configure
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 0.14.7~git20070706-2
Severity: wishlist
Hullo good people of Debian!
I looked about for this bug and, although it's not important, I wanted
to make sure that the establishment was aware of it.
I have read that Xorg is moving away from /etc/X11/xorg.conf
dependence in favour of automagic hardware detection. This is super.
However, when I installed and configured Xorg on my laptop, Xorg
-configure failed to recognise or install the
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics TouchPad driver onto my machine,
favouring the generic 'mouse' driver instead. Consequently, I had to
rewrite the xorg.conf file myself to enable the TouchPad driver
support.
I wish, therefore, for Xorg -configure to detect Synaptic TouchPads on
computers automatically and add whatever lines are necessary to
xorg.conf.
With thanks!
