No, it wouldn't be a hell, but downgrading back to testing later may be
a bit of a hell :)

I just decided to build some drivers for testing for people like you.
Just take the .deb at
    http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/rebuilds/intel-2.2.0.90-Xserver1.3/
install them (with dpkg -i foo.deb) and let me know if they help.

Yes, the drivers from unstable only work with xorg-server from unstable
because of an ABI change in the Xserver between testing and unstable.
That's why we needed to rebuild a package for you. As long as
xorg-server has some big bugs preventing it from entering testing, the
new drivers won't enter testing either. It has been the case for several
months already.

I meant no DRI/DRM only. You can have many X sessions as long as they
don't try to shared DRI/DRM.
