Severity: important

Open VLC, start movie, fullscreen it, stop movie, switch to other desktop with programs on it
or to other full screen window on this desktop, switch back and forth at most three or four
times - usually just switching back to VLC once is enough - and the screen turns to gibberish.
All programs, including sound, appear to die, but keyboard allows me to kill X with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
Screen retains gibberish (stripes, repeated boxes of stuff). Restarting X by blindly typing startx
does not help. Only reboot with Ctrl-Alt-Delete works.

In case this isn't added by reportbug, I use Evilwm as my window manager (well, it's fast and small...)

        Monitor "AL1916"
        DefaultDepth 16

Oh, and switching to text mode with Ctrl-Alt-F[1-6] gives me a black screen,
No Signal" says the monitor, but switching back with Ctrl-Alt-F7 gives me the intact X session.

I'm fairly good at following instructions, so do ask me to crash and log.
I'll be glad, if I can help in any way.

I think this appeared about a month ago, end of November 07, that is.
Before that, I only had X freezing the system on about every tenth startup,
requiring me to pull the plug to restart, but that appears to have been fixed
(knock on wood).
