Bug#419907: Note on xorg

Package:  xorg
Version:  1:7.1.0-16

Well, not really a bug, but rather a missing safety net for third-party software not designed for the new directory structure. The present case concerns a high-level commercial program for data handling and analysis. Other programs may, however, be equally affected.

After upgrading from Sarge to Etch, the program no longer ran properly. Its on-line manual failed to start up, returning the error message "X does not support local C". This occurred on both of my desk tops.

On the other hand, "validlocale C" ansers with "locale 'C' valid and available". By analogy with the link
     /usr/X11R6/bin -> /usr/bin ,
I therefore fixed the problem with the symbolic link
     /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale -> /usr/share/X11/locale .

I know that X11R6 has been discontinued. Yet, to save others the trouble as long as somewhat older programs are around, it might be useful to include this link (and maybe others) in xorg.

With kind regards,

Harold de Wijn
