I however had to add *both* Modes and PreferredMode to make it work.
PreferredMode by itself didn't work.

Ah, I actually even saw that, but did not realize it is applicable. As
written, I understood it as /only/ being of interest if I use multiple
monitors -- which I don't. So please mention it affects video mode
configuration in all cases.
