Bug#456955: laptops don't have keypads

BG> You need to use the whole first parameter of Modeline (it's an
BG> identifier) in PreferredMode, i.e. "800x600_75.00" here instead of
BG> "800x600".

I now tried that too.

Maybe this has something to do with

DN> Ok, that's broken and should be fixed. I'll try and take a look at
DN> it over the next couple of days...

OK, but shouldn't you have an open bug number?

I also note
Larry likes his laptop in 800x600 mode
has now become an impossible task in Debian.

And apparently one day when it becomes possible, it will only be via
tortuous cut and paste of dangerous (to the heath of one's monitor, if
the numbers get garbled) xrandr output into one's xorg.conf.

Or one could use xrandr in ~/.xsession, adding more wear and tear to
the monitor.

Also then the user must pick a MHz choice. I picked 75 hoping that it
won't wear out my monitor or my eyes but I am just guessing.

I recall in the old days one could just dpkg-reconfigure and pick
one's favorite resolution.

Be aware that those wishing to change resolutions might be
http://www.useit.com/alertbox/seniors.html for whom documentation
hunts end up in regrets. I.e., accessibility of your package is
declining.

Anyway, now that the pattern of this not being all my fault after all
is slowly being revealed, maybe

How does one type Ctrl+Alt+Keypad-Plus on a Thinpad r50e as the
xorg.conf man page says? With shift+numlock I can type a keypad plus on
tty1 but not in X: some keypad keys just move the mouse around, etc.

also now does not work as advertised. Can someone please check? Thanks.
