Bug#457475: xorg: Reliably triggered screen crash on switching desktops

Rene Kita wrote:
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.3+8
Severity: important

Open VLC, start movie, fullscreen it, stop movie, switch to other desktop with programs on it or to other full screen window on this desktop, switch back and forth at most three or four
times - usually just switching back to VLC once is enough - and the screen turns to gibberish.
All programs, including sound, appear to die, but keyboard allows me to kill X with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
Screen retains gibberish (stripes, repeated boxes of stuff). Restarting X by blindly typing startx
does not help. Only reboot with Ctrl-Alt-Delete works.

Please send the whole output of
   /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3>&1
so that we see your full config and log (reportbug would have done that for you automatically).

If you could do that after the crash occured, that would be very nice (by logging from ssh for instance). If you can't do that, have a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old after the next restart of the X server, it should contain the log of the previously crashed session. Send it to us.

The bug is probably in xserver-xorg-video-intel, I guess you're using 2.2.0, we'll see in your reply.
