Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.7.197-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I upgraded yesterday to this version and today the system crashes. After boot and switching to KDM no signal is sent to the monitor. I'm unable to ping the machine. I'm unable to switch to a virtual console. The entire system is dead.

Does adding
   Option "BusType" "PCI"
to section Device of your xorg.conf help?

This could well be similar to #457233 (your boards are similar) and I suspect the recent AGP changes in 6.7.197.

Could you go back to earlier versions of xserver-xorg-video-ati using http://snapshot.debian.net/ ? It would be nice to test some versions on the 6.7.19x branch, for instance 6.7.196-1. This way, we might locate where the breakage occured.
