Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.7.196-1
Severity: important

I've been using always lenny/sid, when i changed this workstation gfx
card to a ATI 9250 due to some 3d requirements, i can use 3d since DRI
crashes X.
After several searches on google, several bug reports read, workarounds
and useless Options testing in xorg.conf (basically tried every option i
could find) including BIOS changes (my motherboard only has an option to
enable 4x or disable 4x not to choose which speed i want) with aperture
size from 8 to 256mb, basically tried everything i could find, including
installing the experimental xorg packages (mainly
xserver-xorg-video-ati) to reach the end conclusion that DRI is the cause
for the crash.

Board is a VIA chipset (can't recall the brand/model can see later if
needed)

I could supply inumerous debug info like many did in several places
(like ubuntu bug tracker) but i'll be just repeating they're logs.

Oh btw, yes, i need DRI, it's not to do something fancy if it was i
would buy a better card, but, it's what i have atm, don't bother looking
at xorg.conf atm, it has the latest options i was trying before i wrote
this bug report, and log also, was trying to load an etch version of
radeon and ati module on 7.3 with ignoreABI, which btw, didn't work
either, got the crash, which again, makes me believe it's DRI related.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Severity: important

I've been using always lenny/sid, when i changed this workstation gfx card to a ATI 9250 due to some 3d requirements, i can use 3d since DRI crashes X. After several searches on google, several bug reports read, workarounds and useless Options testing in xorg.conf (basically tried every option i could find) including BIOS changes (my motherboard only has an option to enable 4x or disable 4x not to choose which speed i want) with aperture size from 8 to 256mb, basically tried everything i could find, including installing the experimental xorg packages (mainly xserver-xorg-video-ati) to reach the end conclusion that DRI is the cause for the crash.

Board is a VIA chipset (can't recall the brand/model can see later if needed)

I could supply inumerous debug info like many did in several places (like ubuntu bug tracker) but i'll be just repeating they're logs.

Oh btw, yes, i need DRI, it's not to do something fancy if it was i would buy a better card, but, it's what i have atm, don't bother looking at xorg.conf atm, it has the latest options i was trying before i wrote this bug report, and log also, was trying to load an etch version of radeon and ati module on 7.3 with ignoreABI, which btw, didn't work either, got the crash, which again, makes me believe it's DRI related.

I am sorry, but do you really expect us to understand something in such
a messy report? You're not using Debian packages (our ati 6.6.3 cannot
be installed with xserver-xorg-core 1.4 because of conflicts due to ABI
mismatch). You're trying to ignore the ABI mismatch, which for sure
cannot work.

I am just closing this useless bug.

If you want your problem to be fixed, please remove all your crappy
packages and/or drivers, reinstall a clean xserver-xorg-core from unstable
and xserver-xorg-video-ati from experimental, and let reportbug open a
new bug, it will send us the corresponding xorg.conf and log, including
the backtrace of the crash (should be at the end of the log).

Regarding the crash itself, I suspect it could be a freeze (and not a crash). In this
case, please try
   Option "BusType" "PCI"
in the Device section of xorg.conf.

Thank you
Brice
